My Competencies
Lead
Leadership is essential in any group setting, guiding and motivating others toward a shared goal. In sales, strong leadership means taking initiative, inspiring collaboration, and driving results. I have learned to lead in a way that aligns with my strengths, through communication, teamwork, and leading by example. My experiences organizing large-scale events and fundraising initiatives have strengthened my ability to rally a team, execute strategies, and achieve meaningful outcomes.

One example of my leadership skills was during my time as Vice President External of Beta Tau Omega, where I helped organize Mr. Rho Delta Chi, a male beauty pageant. Managing multiple organizations and ensuring smooth execution required clear communication and adaptability. To increase ticket sales and attendance, I developed and marketed a strategic sales plan, which generated $2,000 in revenue. I also worked closely with team members to delegate tasks effectively, keep morale high, and align everyone toward a common goal. This experience reinforced that leadership in sales is about influencing, strategizing, and keeping teams focused on success.

Another key leadership moment was when I lead fundraising efforts, including bake sales, Pie-a-Beta, and Instagram bingo cards, which raised $2,500 for the Gastric Cancer Foundation. Initially, engagement in these initiatives was inconsistent. Instead of managing passively, I took a hands-on approach by motivating team members, fine-tuning sales techniques, and engaging directly with potential donors. By creating a structured plan and leading with enthusiasm, I helped our team increase participation, improve our outreach, and ultimately exceed our fundraising goals.

I have also learned that leadership is not just about giving direction but listening, adapting, and setting an example. Whether it was working with sponsors, organizing volunteers, or closing fundraising deals, I focused on understanding my team’s strengths, addressing challenges, and ensuring everyone felt valued. These same principles are critical in sales, where success depends on building strong relationships, communicating value effectively, and guiding clients toward the best solutions.

As I continue to progress through my career, I will apply these leadership skills to connect with clients, lead teams, and drive results in competitive environments. Effective leadership in sales is about influence, strategic thinking, and perseverance, and I am excited to continue developing these qualities in a professional setting.
Communication
Effective communication is essential in both business and everyday life. It involves clearly expressing thoughts, ideas, and emotions while also listening and understanding others. Strong communication skills are critical in sales, where success depends on building relationships, understanding client needs, and delivering persuasive messaging. While communication was once a challenge for me, I have worked hard to develop this skill, and it has played a key role in my professional growth.

During my summer internship at Choice Career Fairs, communication was essential for teamwork and productivity. I was part of a five-person team responsible for handling various business operations. Early on, I noticed that conflicting opinions and strong personalities made it difficult for the group to function efficiently. Two team members wanted to take charge over the marketing campaigns, leading to disagreements about our approach. Instead of letting conflict stall our progress, I actively listened to both sides, facilitated discussions, and helped guide the team toward a compromise. By ensuring that everyone’s input was valued, we developed a clear action plan and successfully completed all assigned tasks. This experience reinforced how effective communication and collaboration lead to better outcomes in a business setting.

As an Event Student Assistant at The Association of Former Students, I communicated regularly with alumni, team members, and event attendees. Planning large-scale events, such as Aggie Ring Day with over 20,000 attendees, required seamless coordination. I was responsible for conveying event details, addressing concerns, and ensuring that all logistics ran smoothly. Strong communication helped me keep the team organized, improve the guest experience, and handle unexpected challenges with professionalism. These skills directly apply to sales, where clear messaging and active listening are crucial when engaging with clients and handling objections.
Communication is a lifelong skill that is essential for success in sales.

Whether negotiating deals, resolving client concerns, or delivering presentations, the ability to express ideas clearly and build meaningful connections is invaluable. My experiences have strengthened my ability to communicate effectively, collaborate with diverse teams, and adapt my messaging to different audiences. As I continue developing my sales career, I will use these skills to understand customer needs, build trust, and drive business growth.
